A Pet by Cynthia Rylant

How do the internal and external problems within the story affect each other? Use proof from the story to support your thoughts. Make sure to make connections to what you know in the real world (a reflection).

The Internal And External problems connect to each other because a Internal problem resulted a external problem. For example, the Internal problem which is that Emma wanted a pet the External problem caused was that Emma got a old blind goldfish. After that the internal problem was that Emma thought fish was far away from pet.
Then the External problem caused is that Joshua got sick. Then The Internal problem was born that Emma became sad.The last problem is a external problem and it is that Joshua died even when she hoped he wouldn't die.

The external problems and internal problems within the story was that Emma wanted a goldfish, like Naniel said, and the external problem was that Joshua died. This is like cause and affect, since these problems affect each other because since Emma wanted a pet, her parents got her a pet, and Joshua died. This reminds of how in the world today, sometimes what we want can lead to a catastrophe. In the story, Emma wanted a pet, which wasn't anything bad at all. But her parents, not caring about Emma, gave her an old goldfish that was bound to become sick and die.

The internal and external problems within the story affect each other because with the internal problem, it caused and external problem to happen. It's almost like cause and affect. For example, the internal problem in the story is that her parent's didn't care what Emma wanted as a pet and instead gave her an old used blind fish.If her parent's most likely bought her a pet that she loved (not one that any one would like) it would have been the pet of her choice. It's not that she hates the fish and this makes me realize that life is just not always the way that you want it to turn out to because life has its own way of doing things. Since Emma got a blind old used pet fish an external problem happened to become. An used fish can't live for that long because it can't survive to some conditions. As a result of this, Emma's fish past away. This makes me think that once a problem overcomes it goes away after the external problem is solved. This is how the internal and external problems within the story affect each other.

The external and internal problems affect others a lot. The external problem affected Emma a lot, which was Joshua dying. At first, Emma thought that the fish was the most horrible pet she could ever get. But now she realized that you shouldn't judge someone or something by their looks, because she got to know Joshua better. She realized that he wasn't that bad after all. The internal problem affected Emma a lot too. The internal problem was that her parents didn't care for Emma. They just left her to fend on her own.If you look at other parents, you can see that they love their children a lot and care for them a lot. But that is not the situation with her parents, because they want her to fend for herself. I think that her parents should care for her because she is just a kid after all. Everyone should care for others.

The internal problem is that Emma wanted a pet for Christmas. The external problem is that she got a pet fish and that she thought fish was so far away from the word pet. Then Emma feel in love with Joshua which is a internal problem. The external problem is that Joshua got sick and died of the sickness he got. Emma was so sad because of that. So she buried Joshua and her parents just watched her and didn't comfort her when she needed them the most. That is not what good pernts should do. That's not what good parents should do. Anyway there are many internal and external problems in this story and it ends when Joshua was dying. Also Emma's parents never helped her when she got Joshua so this shows that she didn't ask anything from her parents because she might have thought that her parents were harmful to her pet. So these are the problems and that Emma's parents should be nicer to her. Alvy.

IN the story, the internal part of the parents was really bad and it wasn't really good and the way it can connect to my life is that my mom is the complete opposite and she is kind and nice on the inside. IN the story it says that the parents didn't buy the pet Emma wanted, like a dog or a cat, and it also said that the word fish was faraway from the pet, and when I was younger, I was able to choose my own fish and my parents were ok with that, which means they cared about me. Since Emma's parents didn't care about Emma, the parents externals look good and its kind of like, "don't judge a book by its cover", and my mom is nice on the inside AND the outside, some people might not feel like that, but its true and the only thing that matters is the inside, not if you are ugly or beautiful.PS- this is not my sister, someone hacked my account and I am Shaqib

Internal and external problems affect each other like cause and effect. One way I can show this is Emma's internal problems were that she was lonely and loved Joshua. This resulted to her external problem of watching him and when she died to cry and mourn.

They affect each other because, well, it's cause and affect, for example, in the story, the external and internal problems was that Emma wanted a pet. Another external problem in the start is that Emma got a fish instead. They affect each other because Emma wanted a pet, so her parents got her Joshua, the fish.

Like what naNiel said, Internal effects the external. It is kind of like Cause and Effect. The internal is Emma wanting a pet and External which most of you said joshua was used and died.

The internal and external problems affect each other because an internal problem in the story is that Emma's parents don't worry about what she wants, and doesn't give her what she pleases. The external problem is then that Emma doesn't ask anything from her parents and does things alone. In this world such problems occur, such as when Rosa Parks felt that she didn't want to be bossed around, it lead her to go to jail, but be an ispirational new line of hope for others.

The internal and external problems in the story affect each other. One internal problem creates another. It creates a string like cause and affect line. For example, in the story, Emma wanted a pet, and the external problem became that Emma got a old used blind gold fish. Then that can become an internal problem, creating an external problem, which is that Joshua dies. That can also lead to Emma learning that things aren't always what they seem, people can come to love certain things, etc. In the real world, things like this often happen. For example, in the story about Rosa Parks, Rosa got tired of letting the whites come before the blacks. That created an external problem, which is that she didn't give up her seat. That created an external problem, sending her to jail. Then another problem occurred, which was that she went to jail, soon teaching people to stand up for themselves. To add on, many people create a string of problems from one problem, because of problems within, and those occur to the outside world. This makes me realize that many people can cause problems because of things they refuse to talk about, and create problems for themselves.

The Internal and external affect each other. Actually, the internal affects the external. For example, the internal problem in the story a pet by Cynthia Rylant was that Emma wanted to have a pet. The external problem in the story a pet by Cynthia Rylant, was that Emma's parents went and bought a blind used up old fish, all because it was very cheap. This shows that Emma's parent are so selfish, they couldnt buy a pet of Emma's choice and that would've been a lot more younger. But, Joshua came out to be the best thing that happened to her. Also, it is like cause and effect, that Emma's problem became to a good moment to the best moment to the saddest moment to the worst moment. This is why/how a internal problem causes the external problem.

The internal and external problem connect to each other because the external problem can be the cause and the internal problem the effect or vice versa. To add on, I concur with Aisha because the external problem being that Emma got a goldfish and that affected her inside because she was sad and angry at the same time.

Many of you are discussing that there is an internal and an external problem and also include the ideas of cause and effect which is great. However you are still forgetting to add in proof and ALSO you are forgetting to make connections to the real world. It's like a reflection.

The internal and external problems are a cause an effect. I disagree with what most people said above about the pet because I think that the internal problem was that Emma was the only child and the external problem was that she wanted company. Another internal problem was that she asked her parents for a pet and the external problem was that her parents bought her an old goldfish, named Joshua, by it's former owner. The next internal problem is that since joshua was already old , she had a shorter lifespan, the external problem is that Joshua died. In short, every internal problem affects an external problem.

The internal and the external problems in the world show us that once when thing happens another comes hanging around. The internal and the external problems within the story affect each other because it shows the effects that happened in the world. The internal problem of the book A Pet is that Emma's parent's neglect her. They don't even care what's happening to their own daughter. And because of her parent's neglecting her an external problem was caused which is that she has no one to share her feelings with besides the fish. There are many problems within the world that we can also stop causing.Once one problem starts, it pursues on to another one. Like since we are polluting in the outside world, some of the fossil fuels are starting to decrease and the animals are also losing their habitats. The outside teaches us a lot things in the outside world and everything is caused by cause and effect. But from the book A Pet it wasn't bound to happen that her parent's neglect her; it just happens to become that way.

The internal problem is that Emma's parents don't care about her and her wishes and gave her an old, used and blind goldfish. The external problem is that Joshua died.Since Emma got a OLD goldfish, it obviously didn't live long, that too, just when Emma was starting to like Joshua. As you can see, that internal and external problems effect each other.

The internal and external problems affected each other because in the story when Emma wanted a pet, she constantly begged however the external problem was that her parents didn't appreciate the idea of their daughter having a pet. These two problems affected each other because after all the debating and begging Emma finally recieved an old, blind gold fish as a pet. Another reason why the internal and external is when the internal problem Emma trying to help Joshua when the external is Joshua began to die. When Emma tried to help him her parents didn't even support her This makes me think that Emma's parents don't care about her as much as they appear to, in the real world nowadays parents support a child when things go wrong however that is not the case in this story, and that can harmfully affect Emma because every child needs a supporting character in their life and from what it sounds like Emma doesn't have any one else other than Joshua and her parents (who don't care)
